To the Editor:
I'm very interested in this topic chemical industry security. I work as a consultant for an insurance company that provides coverage related to chemical products general liability, products liability and environmental. This is becoming a big concern for the insurance industry and we look for security in all operations, increasingly focusing on rail cars, trucking and other transportation that carries hazardous chemicals, as well as the impact on people and the environment. I think you also would find it interesting to look at security vs. premium costs.
There are organizations that help with the developing standard procedures many of which are concerned with security which is a large part for companies that distribute chemicals.
I have not come across any major security breaches, but it would be interesting to correlate safety and security investment to insurance losses or exposures. More firms are adding railcar operations and their own trucking fleets, which can complicate security matters. Most trucking fleets now have GPS and check-in requirements for their drivers. I wonder if these systems qualify to meet any upcoming government regulations that affect the chemical industry.
Thank you for this set of articles.

To the editor:
I am deeply disappointed. This edition was completely one-sided. Nowhere was there even a mention of the contrary point of view regarding the efforts of the chemical industry. My extensive experiences in dealing with chemical industry members isn't remotely as rosy as the picture you project.
